In comparison to the Grace IR1000 (the first generation Grace internet radio I believe):

Range is poor...fine I suppose if you are using in the same room as your wifi access point

Sound quality went downhill considerably...smaller speaker in a smaller box

Quite small

Uses V-Tuner not Reciva portal

Could not get it to connect to my wifi range extender which works fine for several laptops and my Grace IR1000



I just can't recommend this one (though there is something to be said for the battery backup which maintains the connection while moving it about the house).

If you've been waiting a long time for a portable WiFi Internet radio, wait a while longer and don't be tempted by this one. This is a pitiful product from an irresponsible company. It doesn't connect to my Apple AirPort Extreme network, which may have something to do with Apple's latest firmware v.7.4.1, although my Roku Internet radio and other equipment continue to work just fine with my AirPort network. The DisGrace initially functioned with the AirPort network but was prone to constant re-buffering, especially when receiving streams with high bit rates. For portable Internet radio, I've gone back to cellular, using a Verizon Palm Treo 700p with Altec Lansing inMotion portable speakers. I have another router, a Kyocera KR2 EVDO WiFi unit, and the DisGrace still works with that, though with the same dropouts and rebuffering. Expect to have to put the radio directly next to the router since that's about the limit of its range. I recently discussed the problems with the manufacturer, which had ignored my initial E-mail. They authorized a repair or exchange. I sent the radio in and got the same radio back, with no improvement in performance and no explanation as to the nature of the service they provided. The fact that they added settings for a different WiFi network and left their Costco batteries inside suggests that they did try to get it working but they didn't feel the need to comment on their experience. Just send the piece of trash back to the customer and move on. That's the spirit! I'm very happy with Amazon but completely disgusted with this product. If your Internet radio doesn't have to be portable, go with a Roku SoundBridge. That's a class act.

This is a nice little radio if you need:

- Over 10,000 internet radio stations

- Also includes FM reciever

- AC or Battery powered

- remote control



The key feature of this radio is the fact that it can work on batteries for over 14 hours. If you do not need that feature I would suggest either the GDI-IR1000 or GDI-IR2000. All 3 products sound very nice but the GDI-IR1000 and GDI-IR2000 have a larger speaker and hence more bass performance and volume output.



The GDI-IR1000 and GDI-IR2000 are basically the same. The only difference is the GDI-IR2000 adds aux in jack and remote control to the GDI-IR1000 feature set.



Also please note that the GDI-1000 and GDI-IR2000 both can play Pandora and Sirius ( if you have Sirius premium internet radio service). The GDI-p600 does not support those additional services.



The GDI-IRP600 has been tested and verified to work with hundreeds of routers. However, please note it does not currently work with the Apple extreme wireless router.

This would be a nice radio, but it is not working for me. After setting up the connection to my wireless router, it displays 'Connecting' for a while and then shows: 'Server is not available'. Tech support is not answering my emails. The only thing that works right now is the FM radio. I may have to return this product.

This internet radio delivers what it promises. It receives plenty of channels and reception is good. A few stations have varying sound levels, so there is a need to adjust the volume when switching between channels. I haven't yet used any of the other features such as the I Pod dock. I run it through my stereo, so the sound is great. By itself, the sound is decent as one would expect for a unit with speakers of this size.

Unfortunately, the display stopped working after a few weeks. I couldn't read the white lettering at all. The radio was still functioning, but rendered useless. I received a no-hassle replacement from Amazon, so we'll see if it fares any better.

With an English language owner's manual (twice I received French ones - a replacement was eventually sent) and a functioning display, I would rate it 4 stars.

Radio is everything promised and more. I have not used the Ipod connection but never needed to. Couple this radio with Pandora and you have fabulous commercial free, dj free music. I bought this with the intention of accessing satellite radio via the web, for a fee of course. However, after discovering Pandora, I have not bothered with the satellite bit.

Sound is great. After set up and storing stations in memory it is a breeze to use. Not that hard to set up but does require a bit of PC savy and patience.

I have only had my unit for a couple of days but LOVE IT already. My at home broadband is a Sprint MIFI 2200 portable Hot Spot which was also purchased from Amazon. They work well together along with my laptop computer. There is NO problem using the Grace Radio on a 3G Sprint Network! The MIFI supports up to five devices at one time. Enough said for the MIFI! the Grace Radio is fairly easy to set up, it took less than a half hour. Be prepared to spend MANY hours checking out ALL the various stations! I am now looking forward to a WiFi Auto Radio, maybe Grace will realize the potential of partnering with a MIFI device and build a radio for the road that can receive thousands of stations as well as podcasts!

Very easy setup and connection to internet. Use of dial/single button to enter text characters is time consuming, but only needs to be done once per network, and remembers settings. We are able to dock our iPod with it's protective cover on. Had issues navigating through the grace radio website to activate the account (free) and associate our [...] account (the instructions didn't match the website very well). But, once set up it is very easy to use Pandora and provide "thumbs-up/downn" feedback. We even created a new Pandora station while listening to the radio on the deck of a cabin in the mountains on a recent trip. Perfect for travel, WiFi and ethernet port make it easy to connect to internet. Sound is nothing to brag about, but is not bad either. Haven't used the RCA jacks yet, but am sure this will become a standard part of our home stereo. Wish it had a battery-power option for true freedom of movement, but realize that it would chew through batteries, and perfection is a lot to ask for.

I love being able to just dock my iPod and easily listen to any of the songs on there. Then, if I'd like to listen to Pandora or a radio station from half way around the world I can with a few simple clicks. Brilliant. Well done Grace.

Caveat: I purchased this (and a GDI-IR1000 before) primarily to listen to a handful of Sirius talk channels without turning on a stereo system. DirecTV provides all the XM music channels, and I have a minimum of use for the 15,000 internet stations the Grace radio successfully receives. I ultimately purchased a Logitech Squeezebox Boom, which works perfectly with Sirius with better sound, albeit at a higher price.



I've tried two Grace internet radios, and both have the same problem... Sirius really doesn't work (after weeks of interactions with Grace support).



The problem appears to be that the Sirius stream doesn't come directly from Sirius (as the Stiletto and PC streams do), but from a third party named Reciva.



The problems? When you turn on the radio already set to a Sirius channel, more often than not it reports "Unable to play", although pressing a preset button for the same Sirius channel immediately connects.



And then, after it connects, it frequently stops with "Stream ended", although, again pressing the preset button immediately connects and plays.



Grace claimed this was a unique problem, and wanted me to try another radio, and I did, with exactly the same results (this time directly connected via Ethernet, instead of WiFi). But the Grace and Reciva websites now have multiple reports of the "Stream ended" problem.



Grace support, while professional and responsive, seems unable to resolve Reciva/Grace issues.



If Grace can work out the problems with Reciva/Sirius behind the scenes, or with a radio firmware update, this will be a good product. Until then, if you're planning to buy this to receive Sirius (which requires paying Sirius for 'CD quality' streaming), think again.



One other comment on this model... the IR remote isn't very effective... it must be used from directly in front of the unit, and at close range.

The device does do a decent job as an internet radio however it' build quality is marginal. One could easily describe it as feeling cheap. The sound quality is about the same as the sound quality of the built in speaker one finds in a desktop. It does have two speakers but for what reason I can't figure out. I have experienced problems connecting with Pandora. Most likely this is a firmware problem which might be fixed sometime or another. As for that glowing review of the unit it was obviously written by a Grace company spokesman. Amazon shouldn't allow them to do that. Overall I would say the Grace 1000B is a better radio.

Part I. This Grace radio is excellent. I cannot understand why they don't sell millions of these and why this model is not available on local store shelves. This is a small stereo Internet radio with decent sound - exactly what I was looking for. If you want to listen more closely, you can use the headphone jack or RCA output connections to connect to other stereo equipment. As an Internet radio, the out of box experience was excellent. I was set up and listening to my favorite Internet radio stations within minutes of opening the box. The rotate and push control knob is easy to use and provides an interface that should not seem foreign to anyone. The backlit display is easy to read. Today I took the radio with me around the house, from the basement to the garage and it provided clear clean sound. I love Internet radio and can now appreciate it without booting up and being tethered to my PC thanks to this Grace radio. Part 2. I cannot live without a few of the Sirius radio stations - yeah, the ones that have living breathing intelligent DJs. The setup of Sirius on this radio took me more than an hour of experimenting. It works fine now, but I had to perform a firmware upgrade and try a few things to get it going. That part of the experience could have been smoother, but I did get it done, by myself, on a Saturday when the Grace support is not available.

Brought the GDI-2000 and was really impressed with it - brought the 3000 looking for stereo - only item I have sent back to amazon - it was soooo disappointing after the 2000 - if you grew up on computer speakers and like techno, this is your radio - but if you don't want your other genres to sound tinny, then it is worthwhile buying the GDI IR4400M - same ease of use but the sound is all there!

Overall, I think that this radio is a good investment if you listen to internet radio, used to subscribe to satellite radio and want an endless supply of radio stations that circle the world for no subscription fee. For years now I have listened to radio over the internet bookmarking an endless list of URLs to the stations that I listened too. But to listen them I had to have access to my computer which wasn't always convenient. And before XM and Sirius merged I was an XM sub for four years. I loved the service because of all of the variety of music that it supplied.



The Grace Internet Radio is a great alternative to having to sit in front of your computer to get access to internet radio. And the endless supply of news, sports, music and what ever else you want to listen to on radio. Listen to radio all over the world, for free with the Grace Wireless Internet Radio. Its great not having to deal with my computer and listening to radio at the same time.



Positives -

Great sound quality from such a little device

Very easy to understand and connect to your network out of the box

Has an alarm clock and sleep timer

Can connect to Pandora, talk about endless music and you will actually want to hear

A ton of radio stations from all over the world, it is really amazing

Light, easy to move around

Best of all, no subscription fees



Negatives -

The menu on the radio is hard to figure out

The directions need to be more clearly written, they are difficult to understand

Cannot operate on batteries

The intergradation of Sirius needs to be more clearly written both by Grace and Sirius. Trying to be figure out how it works is painful

I wish there was a display button that could scroll through the stations by city, state, genre, station number and letters, and even show that is currently on. Instead you have to wait for the screen to scroll to the call letters and city.



This radio is a good investment because after the up-front cost of buying the radio you get and endless assortment of radio variety. And if you want a louder sound this model has the audio output in the back so that you can hook it up to your larger stereo. The sound is crystal clear and you and even play your MP3 selections from your computer to the Grace Internet Radio if you would like. I just wish the interface was better and more people would be tuned into buying this radio.

Having lived in large cities much of my life, I missed the variety of music programing in the mid-sized city we chose for retirement. This was a compromise we willingly accepted because the overall quality of life was much improved. Time-Warner broadband and the Grace GDI IR1000 has now given me the equivalent of a larger media market plus the rest of the world: symphonic music direct from London, Vienna, Moscow, etc. Gaelic And other Celtic music from the British Isles, authentic Chinese works from Beijing. It is all free and available 24/7. This little radio produces strong and steady sound even without a stereo hook-up which is available with RCA adapter included. The radio is a compact and attractive table model which is very easy to set up with your existing wireless router. Overall you can expect to spend 2+ hours exploring the choice of stations using the accompanying software to seek the music genres you prefer. Once setup with your selections, you have a lifetime to simply enjoy the music. I love to read another Hamish McBeth mystery book while listening to Celtic music from Radio Scotland. This one of the best purchases I have ever made from Amazon. While this is not a high end 7.1 sound system, it does produce excellent enjoyable sound. With new stations coming on line weekly, you can always add new music sources.

I just bought this radio several days ago and absolutely love it! Very, very simple to operate, and took literally 15 minutes to set up (and I employ both 128 bit WEP and MAC filtering). In addition to the myriad stations available, I've linked my Internet Radio to my Pandora account; this allows the unit to play music directly from my Pandora radio stations. I can even create new Pandora radio stations directly from the Grace IR (although it is quicker and easier to do this from a computer). The sound quality from the onboard speakers is excellent. I have my unit connected to my home stereo system via the Grace IR's Headphone output into L-R inputs on my receiver. This is an excellent, excellent buy! I am considering purchasing a second unit for my bedroom. I highly recommend this unit.

Problem after time-consuming problem with this thing, and the lasted bug has driven me over the edge. I see the same complaints as my own posted in the so-called help forum on the manufacturer's site. The instruction manual is incomplete, mostly refers you to the site which is just a wiki of customers asking how to fix problems, with the occasional answer posted. It's so ill-sorted you can find the same question in different areas, and get different answers.



The display is dismal and poorly designed. The interface illogical and unintuitive. The sound is cheesy. I've had it trying to like this thing, which came highly recommended by CNET. So much for me trusting their reviews.



I've emailed for a return authorization for a refund but if getting that is anything like trying to get a decent product with decent support from Grace Digital, I may be in for a royal disappointment. Don't waste YOUR money on this cheesebox.

If Grace can work out the problems with Reciva/Sirius behind the scenes, or with a radio firmware update, this will be a good product. Until then, if you're planning to buy this to receive Sirius (which requires paying Sirius for 'CD quality' streaming), think again.

This has to go on one of the best buys I have ever made. I actually have 13000 radio stations to choose from. I don't have time to get close to trying out this many stations but I have tried hundreds. I have found Irish music from ireland, comedy 24/7 with the old comics. Polka music, lots of news, fishing reports, it is endless. I have lost sleep listening to radio stations around the world. Awsome technology, they never has this when I was a kid. Thanks !

After reading the reviews here I went ahead and bought this radio. I was impressed by the feature set, but really all I wanted was a radio

that could connect to a upnp share.



The good - setup was very easy, no issues there.





However, I've since returned it for a couple of reasons.



First, the sound wasn't that great, listening to classical music was filled with pops and snaps (that i don't get over other devices).



Second, the unit has a pretty cheap feel to it, the buttons are very loose feeling and the UI is lacking (it makes navigating through a large library pretty tough. And the remote wasn't particularly responsive.



Finally (just a personal issue i had with it but maybe it will help someone else) there is no snooze bar, so it couldn't replace my existing clock-radio, which was what I was hoping to do.



So based on the first 2 problems and the cost of the unit, I decided I didn't want to live with the 3rd issue.

This radio has good sound and as far as table radios go it works okay if you keep it on one station in the living room or den. The mono sound is actually surprisingly good (depth, clarity). As a previous poster mentioned though there is not enough weight to the unit to secure it to the table when you push the buttons, which are pretty cheap. Push a button, the radio moves, making this a two-handed operation unless you purposely try to be extra gentle, and kind of annoying if you wish to quickly jump to a different station. It was easy to setup, although "booting" up when you first turn it on can take a minute or so. Saving stations is also easy, although some of the talk shows I connect with tend to drop their connection to buffer, something that rarely happens when I'm listening hardwired on the computer. I give it three stars because it fails in the "tactile" and other user-interface refinements that good broadcast radios boast (Kloss, Boston Acoustics, Cambridge Audio, etc.). This needs a lot of refinement.



I know, this is not advertised as a clock radio, because if it was I would give it one star. The big dissapointment for me is that it does not do something that typically table radios offer: if there is an alarm clock function you would expect it to be easy to operate in the dark; with the alarm and snooze function buried in the digital menu, you have to not only use two hands you have to look at it and scroll. Then there is the glaring light...the light that you cannot turn off (as far as I can tell) if the radio is turned off. When the radio is on you can set it up so that the light goes out after a few seconds, and it goes on again if you touch one of the controls, and then goes off again. Fairly common for radios. However, when you turn off the radio in the dark the light turns on and stays on...I end up unplugging it.

Got this as a gift and thought it would be ho hum, but boy was I wrong.

Set up was a snap and in addition to finding stations from around the world it lets you search by genre.

I clicked on jazz and found thousands of jazz stations. Also I am a Pandora junkie and was suprised to see I can link to to my Pandora stuff off this radio too. What a nice suprise this radio is, highly recomend.

I married a British woman and dragged her to America. I bought the Grace radio for her so she could keep in touch with her local scene - hear BBC news - etc. We've used and enjoyed it nearly every day since it arrived on our doorstep. Set up was a breeze. It found and connected to our secure wireless network instantly (after entering the network password). Stations are logically sorted by country. We've expanded our listening range from England to all over the world and have found some real gems. Radio FIP from France is a favorite of mine. The sound from the Grace box is warm and lovely (perfect for French radio). It's got adequate volume for a living room or kitchen. It's not made for thumping bass to entertain a room full of loud partiers - its sweet spot is Sunday morning lazing or to start off the morning (using the built in wake up function). It is what it is - convenient access to a donkey satchel full of world radio - and it does what it does very well. Wife loves it, I love it, the cat is indifferent.

I'm surprised anyone got this radio to work right. But since some people are happy with it, I suppose it does work under certain circumstances. I, however, found this to be the most miserable piece of electronics I have ever purchased in my entire life. First, it doesn't work with WPA. Yes, I know the package says it does, but check the user forum at Grace (for which you are required to register) and you'll see that many people have to disable WPA to get this thing working. Next, this radio is slow as a turtle. Updating the station list takes much longer than it should, and I was reminded of the days of dial-up as I sat there twiddling my thumbs. When it finally does connect to a station, it plays one song then takes a while to play another one. Or else the station has to buffer. Long periods of silence weren't exactly what I wanted when I purchased a $150 radio. The user guide is horrible -- it took me thirty minutes how to locate the serial number in order to set up Pandora. Oh, and then I found that this radio interfered with my internet connection. You might try and see if it works for you, but I took it back to Best Buy and got my money back.

I never would have purchased a WiFi radio because I had heard how much trouble others have had programming these things. I was scared. But my children liked their Grace WiFi Radio so much that they gave one to me at Christmas time. I was amazed to find out how easy it was to set it up. The trick is to first buy a wireless router (If you don't already have one.) and then set it up to match your system. I believe that this is where many go astray. I bought a Linksys WRT54-GL because the user reviews on Amazon showed it to be very popular. I had to call the Tech Help number (1-800-326-7114) to set it up but a very nice young lady led me through it so cheerfully that it was as if she was holding my hand. I secured the special ID codes from my radio (One has seven digits and the other has eight.) by following the instructions in the Grace operator's manual. Then I went to the Reciva.com website and signed up my radio using these codes. It is called an "account" but it does not cost anything. I also had to make up my own personal network name. (If you already have a router then you probably already have a network name.) Pick any name you like. (I.e. RABBIT, BUMPKIN, HILLBILLY, ROCKSTAR, etc) I suggest that you use all capitol letters; they are easier to see when they show up on your radio's small display. Also choose a password; used to prove that it is YOU when you access the Reciva.com web site. Then from the Reciva.com website you can search for stations of your choice, listen to(sample) them if you wish, and save them to you're MY STATIONS list if you like them. Add more station anytime you want; they will show up on your radio's MY STATIONS list alphabetically. Then go to your Grace radio and do a set up where you will put in the Network Name that you have chosen (It is upper/lower case sensitive) and make up a password (so strangers cannot access your system). The operator's manual will help you here. This does not have to be the same password that you used at the Reciva.com website, but your Network Name will be the same. Maybe this sounds like a lot but it really is quite easy. The most time consuming part is deciding which of the thousands of available stations you want to save to you're MY STATIONS list. I saved 55 stations. I noticed that several reviewers complained that the radio's black buttons were hard to see in low light. I bought some white reflector tape in the automotive section at Wal Mart for $2.50 and with a paper punch (the kind that kids use to punch out little round holes.) I punched out small circles of reflector tape. I put one circle of tape on the STANDBY/ON/OFF button, and one on the BACK button. This helped a lot to make them visible. I do this with various other electronics and it is very helpful. Oh, I forgot to mention, I like my Grace radio a lot.

the grace Wifi Radio is perfect. I bought it for my grandmother so she could listed to her AM talk shows from Texas that we cant really get in New Orleans. A normal radio is complicated for her, so I was skeptical. Once it is locked into a signal and station, it goes there automatically every time you turn it on. If you have a problem, it is your network, not the radio. Good receiver, great sound, and so easy, my grandma can do it!:) JK, but thanks Grace!
