Use as a shop radio and turn it on with the light so didn't want a digital that had to be reset every time the power is disconnected. Sound and reception are fine although I usually only have it tuned to local public radio station which is pretty strong. Can't beat it for the price.

"If you're looking for a simple to use radio with good battery life, this is it!" 2009-11-28
By Lucille Ball (Fenton Missouri)
I love this radio. I just wanted a basic, battery operated (this also has an electric cord) radio to listen to news, sports, weather and traffic while I'm getting ready for work. This is perfect! Good sound, battery life and appearance. It is harder and harder to find a simple to use radio anymore. Love this!

 "Dont buy this product." 2009-03-13

First radio broken glass and didn't start up. Second radio is connected to internet but cannot search for radio stations. Tried to get hold of support in NYC but noone available. A bad product even if the idea is good.

Where they have hidden the MMC card reader I don't know. Have sent several mails so CTA but no answer.

 "Great but no support" 2009-02-13
By Jon A. Hupp (Annapolis, MD USA)
This device is a fantastic, tiny, Wifi Internet Radio. It uses the vTuner database for stations. Unlike larger radios, you cannot add stations or streams online and have them uploaded to the radio. You can add stations, but via a very cumbersome process since the radio does not have a keyboard. There is no MicroSD card (as sometimes advertised). A German version of this radio is identical with the MicroSD card. Sound quality and Wifi strength are great. It does support WEP but not WPA. It isn't great for MP3s, Movies, or Photos but then there are better and cheaper devices for these. There is absolutely NO support from what I can tell. Websites referenced in the manual don't exist and CTA's site has very little information. Still, it is very small, good battery life and works well as an Internet Radio. BTW, you can charge it with most MiniUSB chargers (such as for a Blackberry).

 "Great product!" 2008-09-15
By Reporter (New York)
I'm giving this a 5 because it's the only one of its kind: very small and very light, with excellent sound through speakers or headphones. I'm listening to 24/7 comedy, opera from Rome, folk songs from Shanghai -- plus my local S.F. stations, which I could never get clearly because of poor reception in the neighborhood where I live. Thumbs up!

"DOES NOT HAVE MICRO SD SLOT!!!" 2008-08-14
By W. H. Hoyt IV (rural missouri)
I'm not sure how this product is listed as having a micro SD slot. If it has one, it is very well hidden and is not mentioned in the instruction manual. Also, I haven't been able to figure out the recording function (I don't think it exists either). Further, the support website listed on the device is not functional (just a random South Korean public relations site...zero support). It does have a seemingly endless list of internet radio stations and the interface is relatively intuitive. I can't think of much more nice to say. In short, I wouldn't buy this again. If they made it with a real record function, external memory support, and with a TIVO like program, it would be what I actually had hoped for (and wouldn't stink).

"Capable Internet Radio and Really Small" 2008-08-01
By Phillip Wheeler (Los Angeles area)
This radio works well as an internet radio. Manual says 10 hrs on battery when in internet radio mode and I have no reason to question that (but no life tests as yet). And, if you have a USB AC supply (as from an iPhone or iPod) you can power it from that. It is also an FM radio, but I've yet to try that mode.

Construction is fine for the purpose and size (it is really tiny -- thinner than my iPhone, a bit narrower and about 2/3 as big in the longest dimension).

However the description is a bit misleading. It says "Add more media to your device with the Micro SD/MMC card slot". I can find no such slot in the unit (it's so small it would be hard to hide such a slot); nor is one mentioned in the manual. You can load MP3s, images and video into the 1 GB internal memory, but it will not accommodate a Micro SD card as I had hoped. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of five.

The lack of the promised slot is a bit disappointing. But my reason for buying this unit was to have a small internet radio for travel (already have a large one next the bed) and it is that. And I have several other MP3 players.

"Not bad, close to being quite good" 2009-03-17
By Wine Dude (NYC)
I have been using this radio now for about a week. Here is a quick overview:

Pros:

Quite easy to use. Within a couple of minutes, I had the unit connected to my network and I listened to an Auckland, New Zealand Station, Falkland Islands Radio and on over the air (on FM), WNYC (the NYC NPR station) - among a lot more.

Portable. The radio is light in terms of poundage, but has a solid feel. Its rechargeable battery means I can effortlessly move the unit from the kitchen to another room.

Small footprint. I live in Manhattan...space is always an issue!

Sound quality. There is no tininess. There is no problem listening to this unit for an extended period.

Splash proof. A huge plus. I use the unit in the Kitchen and near the bathtub while giving the kids a bath without worry.

Reminiscent of the Tivoli radio. It nicely compliments my weather resistant Tivoli radio.

Cons:

The radio is way over priced. I purchased it only because it was the only unit that I could find that has a rechargeable battery and is splash proof. However, I think that it should be priced at least about [..]cheaper than it is at Amazon (I picked mine up for about [..] less than Amazon's price at a major NYC electronics retailer).

The battery does not last as along as advertised. However, the jury is still out about this as, 1) I am still in the priming stage as described in the instruction manual and 2) I have been doing a LOT of station jumping.

There are not enough presets. There are 5 presets for FM and 5 for WiFi stations, and they are only accessible from the remote. However, setting up "My Stations" on Reciva has made accessing my favorite stations relatively easy.

Despite its high price tag, I have no regrets so far about this purchase.

"Buffered Constantly Compared to Sangean WFT-1" 2009-01-06
By Dr. R. Lookatch (Bloomington, IN)
Got one for Christmas and while I was able to set it up, it was constantly buffering. Having a second wifi, the Sangean WFT-1, I compared them using the same channel. The Sangean blew it away; never buffered on re-loaded once. While a bit qwirky at times, the Sangean WFT-1 is far more stable and reliable. I hope Sangean comes out with a portable. It did have great sound for a small box but it was pretty heavy, barely portable.

 "Great portable WiFi radio!" 2008-07-21
By L. Allen (Memphis, TN USA)
After reading the reviews here, I was a little worried about purchasing the Revo Pico. But I wanted the portability, and after several years with an excellent WiFi radio, the Acoustic Energy (AE), I took the plunge when an open box item was available from Amazon Warehouse Deals at over $100 less than list. I figured I could always return it if was DOA or whatever, but much to my surprise, this little radio sounds better than expected and works flawlessly in battery mode or plugged in. It is no more difficult to use than the AE, and it actually sounds better! The Revo Pico also has several nice features that the AE doesn't, like a remote control (works fine), and an iPod/MP3 player input. I am not sure if I just got lucky, but I really like this WiFi radio. I would have given it five stars, but I do agree that the full retail price of $350 is a bit much. However, this radio exceeded my expectations and does not have any of the problems listed by the other reviewers. So, bring down the price, Revo, and you might sell more of these great WiFi portables!

"Nice idea, but unpredictable results" 2008-06-19
By C. Kissner (San Jose, CA)
I have a Roku Soundbridge Radio and have been delighted with it. I needed a similar, but smaller WiFi radio, and the Revo Pico WiFi looked like just the thing. However, it took three tries to find one that worked reasonably well. The first had a defective display (missing pixels) and the second just flashed the display and made a popping sound. I have one that works now, but the user interface is very difficult compared with the Roku. In addition, every time you turn it on, there is an extended time before it connects to the WiFi network, and sometimes it doesn't connect until the power is recycled. The network signal strength does not seem to matter. The bottom line is the quality control seems unreliable and the product has a number of warts, but it sort of works if you find a good one. If the Soundbridge radio or its equivalent were also available in a smaller version, I would get one immediately. But for the moment, I'm tired of experimenting with these kind of radios.

"Excellent DX AM Night Time Radio" 2009-10-14
By TxReviewer (Driftwood, TX)
Comparing reception to a small Sony multiband and a large Grundig Satellit model, this radio falls somewhere in between. It has really exellent reception and compensates for signal drift. What the radio lacks is fine tuning control and bandwidth control. Neither or those factors are important since I bought the radio as a more reliable night time radio for listening to distant AM stations. Each detent/click on the tuning dial brings in some station. I don't do much formal DXing but use the radio for nights when it is difficult to fall asleep. Located in central Texas at 1000 feet in elevation with clear horizons, I pick up stations in and out of state.

The design is just plain odd. The controls are well placed and easy to use. The multiple C cell battery adds a little heft. I suspect that the radio has a larger than normal AM coil antenna inside.

For less than $100 including shipping, this is a good bet. The RDS feature for FM is novel, but hardly all that amusing after you've seen it a few

times. Most of what stations RDS is station ID and promotional.

"Perfect radio for bathroom countertop" 2009-10-09
By CASpeedo (Los Altos, CA United States)
Wonderful clock radio with excellent sound, stereo, reception. Most clock radios are good in the clock area but are fair to good in the radio area. This radio is stereo, near hi-fidelity sound, and is perfect for me in the morning as I shave. It is wonderful to listen to FM classical music in stereo while shaving with the option of going to AM radio to hear the news and traffic. A fantastic radio in that the sound is superb without taking up a large footprint. The only adverse criticisms include the use of a power block, a minor esthetic consideration, and a readout for the time and radio which could be larger with more contrast.

 "Nice Radio" 2009-10-08
By GR (Missouri)
This is a great radio. It has good reception, and probably the best AM reception I have ever had. I live by Kansas City, but in the evenings I pick-up Denver and New Orleans stations with ease. It is a little big so if you are looking for a handheld this is not it. It has a nice clean design and it is easy to use. I would highly recommend this radio and I would buy it again.

"FM stereo music sounds great, AM talk sounds so-so" 2009-10-04
By Randy W. (Orlando, FL)
The main reason I got this radio was bcuz of its slim, compact design to fit on a narrow shelf. It doesn't have any CD player or tape deck to clutter up the unit and increase its size. Reception is very good for both AM & FM. This unit has one serious omission: no bass-treble tone control. The resulting default sound quality is still very good for FM stereo music,in fact it's amazing for such a little radio. However,a tone control would seriously help the voice clarity when listening to AM talk. Keep this in mind if you like listening to AM talk.

Customer Buzz
"Very good AM reception, but poor sound quality" 2009-09-28
By Gary Kinsman (Simi Valley, CA USA)
The Sangean PR-D5 is very easy to use, and it has very sensitive AM reception. From my perspective, the sound quality is poor, with too much upper bass and muffled treble, which makes voices hard to understand. If Sangean had provided full-range bass and treble controls on the PR-D5, then some of this sound quality issue could have been fixed.

The 10 kHz tuning step on AM is sometimes a limitation, because there is no way to "tune around" hets (i.e., tones) that may accompany a desired signal. A digital radio like the CCRadio 2, with 1 kHz tuning steps, can get around this issue.

The bottom line is that I bought the PR-D5 to listen mostly to news and talk on AM. Since the sound quality is so muffled, it isn't acceptable for my purposes. Almost every other radio I own has better voice quality on AM than the PR-D5.

"A Technology in the making..." 2009-10-01
By Amy (Tennessee)
Pros: endless selection of free music, lots of station choices, make your own station, beautiful screen, older model G1 is very affordable. Also, this thing shines when coupled with an iRiver FM transmitter in the car...

Cons: Oddly designed buttons, finicky scroll wheel, odd touch bar controls. The design could have been better, but probably created to leave the screen uncluttered.

Hints: If you purchase the G1 model over the newer G2 model, only load 1 station the first time. This allows for a quick refresh and lets the portable radio update the firmware. This is CRITICAL! The firmware it ships with is very buggy. After the installation of new firmware and the loading of one station, do a factory reset. You will then have to reload your stations, but it should go much more smoothly. I was ready to throw this thing up against the wall before I figured all this out and just want to save someone else the grief!

"Slacker G1 Player 8gb: Great Portable Music Solution !" 2009-09-15
By Manuel Tan (USA)
I got the first generation Slacker while looking for an inexpensive player that I could dock at home to replace FM radio, I live & work in the City and get a lot of static even with a decent FM radio antenna.

I'm a regular Pandora user before I discovered Slacker, using both apps on Iphone while docked and connected to my home audio was great, but I hated the regular interruptions when I get calls on my cell.

Comparing my FM radio (Static) & Slacker is no brainer, Slacker G1 is the clear winner, but I personally think that the Iphone or probably Ipod touch produced slightly fuller and clearer sound than my Slacker G1, specially at low volume, but for the price and the portability without needing a WIFI is a plus for Slacker G1.

Pros:

No need for WIFI when using as portable player on the road, the player downloads and save the playlist on your player to enjoy, you could select your stations and refresh the songs at your command.

Easy set up, interface & software are easy to use, need minimal effort to enjoy.

For the Price (Less than $100) & features, it's a great player.

Nice bright LCD that could be dimed and the time limit to save battery life is a plus.

Good battery life.

Easy set up and connection to WIFI.

Cons:

Sound quality is not as good compare to my Iphone or Ipod, produced a slight hiss specially when the volume is low, still better than the sound of static.

Touch strip is a joke, you could do without it, just leave it on OFF, it's under setting.

The volume control could be in a better location.

The player looks good but feels cheap, especially the buttons.

Can't seem to find the docking for G1, probably discontinued.

Conclusion:

For the price and portability, after using it for a week, I would recommend the player with minimal reservations. If you like playing Pandora and can't afford the Logitech squeezebox, tired of playing the same playlist on your Itune, static from FM radio.....this one is for you, be an excellent slacker. Enjoy !

 "Broke Down." 2009-09-15
By J. Perez
This radio is nice, the music sounds near-CD quality, and the stations have amazing music. The problem? The device. It slows down in functionality, meaning that if you press a button it could take 5 seconds to respond. Probably the software, so you reset it and let it refresh the stations for 2 hours. The battery life is good. But, the device began to add crazier and crazier. Also, if you're planning on refreshing the radio through the USB, forget it, the driver doesn't work. You'll have to connect to the router wirelessly. But, it erases the web key constantly because this things is full of bugs. Also, if have near a computer that connects wireless, this radio's wifi will disconnect the computers in the room because of its antenna. So, all in all, this device acts with a mind of its own. Mind is even broken at the moment, but I'm planning on using the warranty. Let's hope the warranty is gonna solve the problem, which is why I'm not that angry will writing this.

"Good idea, too many software bugs" 2009-09-06
By J. Martin (GA United States)
I'm a long-time Slacker listener at work and find the service better than even my own music collection so I was looking forward to playing Slacker streams through my home stereo. Unfortunately, this product was a complete disappointment. While the basic idea of a Slacker radio is compelling, there are so may bugs with the product it is unusable.

- The physical packaging and controls are from the last century and create error conditions that require frequent resets

- The station refresh process freezes most times it is initiated by the device

- The communications software that talks to Slacker hangs frequently

- If you have wireless, connecting the G1 via USB to an Internet-connected computer creates complete havoc with it's little software brain

In short, it's a version one-dot-oh product that is now an orphan. Given its multitude of problems, the G1 is just a nice, clunky MP3 player -- if you can buy it cheap enough.

By Paul D. Burris (Plant City, Florida)
Those that love music, especially commercial free and played FM style, with unpredictable lists, then this is for you. My unit, the G1, was certainly a surprise, with Artists Bio, Album Bio, ect... But, when it developed a glitch, a few weeks later, I had trouble getting warranty information, specifically where to send the darned thing to get it fixed. They still haven't told me where I can send it. But, anyway, the product itself is awesome when it works. Watch that reflash.
