after trying forever to get the old bluesoleil software that came with it to work right with A2DP stereo audio and the headset mic, i installed/uninstalled several times..and downloading the upgrade..(but they charge you @ $30), and trying to get the vista drivers to work a few times (plugged but didn't play)..it didn't seem like it was going to work out. it seemed to work for everything but stereo audio and the mic wasn't working either. so eventually aluratek got back to me and said to just install it without the disk. so i was like, ok, they confirm it's supported, so i'll uninstall everything again and give it a go. this time it did install all the drivers it needed. so it does work. it took a while to figure out how to switch the audio back and forth between speakers and bluetooth. unfortunately you can't switch it with the mixer, you have to do it in the control panel => sound => and playback. (i put a shortcut icon on my desktop to that menu for convenience). so then you right click on the list of devices to get a menu and check "show disabled" so that you can disable the bluetooth headphone when you are not using them. i haven't found an easier way. vista won't send the audio to two devices, i.e. the speakers and bluetooth, it could be simpler but it's not that bad with the shortcut. the broadcom driver on my xp netbook has a quick connect option from the bluetooth icon in the system tray. but in vista, it seems if i try to do it via that icon, (goes to the control panel bluetooth settings), if i change those options they are lost and i end up having to unplug the dongle and replug it so it "finds new hardware" and reinstalls the drivers like they should be. so yeah, it was a pain, but i got it for [...] after rebate, and the one i bought before for [...] didn't support A2DP at all. so i finally have my system set up like i've wanted it, cheap. maybe this will save somebody else some time. it used up a lot of mine figuring it out. without knowing all this, i'd give it like a 1. if i were buying it with all this explained i'd give it a 4. and for [...].

I had 3 wifi radios: sangean, denon and aluratek.

Only de Aluratek don't interrupt the transmision on the 256 kbs, the two others has problems, and every minute made a interruptions. The 3 radios I play with the same wifi internet conection. So aluratek win.

This radio is only a reception device, so the quality of the sound will be as the quality of your speakers and main equipment.

Be advice, that the sangean and aluratek has problems with the remote control reception if you have flourecent lights nears to the equipments.

I live in a semi-rural area prone to complete AM noise at night and poor FM coverage in general. After a fair amount of research, I selected thsi product. No PC is required. Others in this category are grossly OVERPRICED, and offer less capability. Stereo sound, perfect to attach to a home theater AV amplifier or a whole house amplifier. The device setup is simple and straight-forward. The interface for selecting stations is a cell phone like scroll thru LCD screen. This could have been a five star rating if I could have programmed my favorites via a web browser once connected to my home network. The sound quality meets or exceeds over-the-air, however does have very infrequent pauses or pops as the device rebuffers. I'm was concerned I was buying poor quality, poorly documented stuff, and can report the exact opposite experience. The streaming capability from PCs a hidden plus, especially when compared to media adapters from Cisco/Linksys (and others) with less functionality. High value at $83, especially compared to competitive products, so much so that I may buy another unit for my home theater.

Got my ALURATEK AIREC01F Internet Radio yesterday.

It connects to you existing stereo or home theatre system through an audio input like a tuner. It can also be used with powered multimedia speakers because the output has a volume level control on the remote.



Setup to my secure wireless network was too easy. It only took 5 minutes and I was playing music off the WEB. I did cheat a bit and read the manual first.

It also has a wired LAN port if you don't have wireless.

No problems so far. Audio quality is great.

The user manual could use a little work. It seems to leave out a few basic things that so far I have been able to figure out.

A website is available for help and firmware updates.



You find internet streaming stations using their Internet Portal Server by continent/ country/state/genre or all. If you know the station ID they are listed in alphabetical order. You can then save as a "favorite" station and recall it later. The manual does not tell you how to delete a single favorite that you have saved, only all of them. WEB site Support did give me a clue that I have not tried yet.



Everything is done with the remote and the display is large and easy to read.

It even sets the time clock with a WEB time server.

It also plays music from a USB thumb drive, can act as an access point, and access music from a media server on your PC that is on the network.



It seems most radio stations have their programming on a WEB stream now days. I have been exploring station around the country, especially public and community radio. No PC required and the quality is better than FM radio in most cases.

I have had much better luck than the previous reviewer. My unit worked out of the box and has continued to work for about four weeks, with no trouble whatsoever. (I have only used the WiFi internet radio feature so I cannot comment on the other things it can do.)



I would give the unit five stars but for one concern: The Aluratek business model. The tuner depends upon an Aluratek server to set up stations. The good news/bad news is that there is no annual subscription fee.



It appears that Aluratek pays for the server out of cash flow from sales. If sales ever fall off, there goes the server, and there goes the radio. Hopefully somebody will figure out how to hack it before the server goes away.

This USB Jukebox is a waste of money. First of all, all these stations are free on the internet so you can just go to their pages and play them. You can also add station to most of the software players out there. All that this product does is to have a list with many stations.



Besides the fact that it just provides something that is available for free, the most important drawback of this is that if the radio changes the URL (address) and sometimes they do the jukebox doesn't work anymore !

How stupid is that? Make a device that is just a glorified list of radio stations, and not update it every time it connects to the Aluratek server ???????

The stations I was interested in changed their addresses and now this USB jukebox is just junk!



Stay away and save your money.

The product is just as advertised, except that I was prompted to install software. However, I think it was just an update to software I currently have (flash, active x, etc - can't remember). Furthermore, it seems to me that the same radio stations can be found for free on the internet without payung for this product. This just makes them easier to find. In the end, I don't mind paying the low cost for this product. Also, just FYI, a mac compatible product is coming out soon...

I'm really excited about the idea of an internet radio (and not having to lug my laptop into the bathroom). I bought this product so I could listen to radio stations in german and french all over my house. I thought this would be an awesome way to practice my language skills. After setting it up, the device kept saying 'unable to receive IP'. I moved the device several times, even placing it right next to my router. It still didn't pick up the signal. I called Aluratek and Norman, the customer service representative with a South Asian accent, suggested I download the firmware (update the driver). While I was navigating my way to the website to get the correct file, Norman suggested that he call me back. I asked him to please give me a few minutes because their customer support is incredibly hard to get on the phone. After a minute, he simply hung up the phone. I called back immediatley. But they were closed (even though it was 30 minutes before their official close time.) Over the next few days, Norman (seemingly their only service representative, would give me a hard time and even suggest I was lying). At that point I decided the best thing to do would be to send the product back. If he acted that way towards a new customer, I could only imagine it would be worse in the future. If you are interested in this product, I suggest you check with the Better Business Bureau's website about Aluratek before you even risk your hard earned hundred bucks. I will not be purchasing anything from this manufacturer ever again.

The concept and basic functions of this "Radio" are fine; the problems are in the features and glitches due to buggy Firmware s/w. I have been in contact with help desk twice and they sent me two Firmware updates to solve major problems: 1) backlight does not turn off or dim, 2) changing dates and times; they correct themselves after reboot.



On the positive side, I can tune in BBC world service and listen to many Jazz and classic music stations from all over the globe. I will keep this radio, but would not recommend it until they fix the Firmware with something better.

The concept is fantastic. I am able to listen to thousands of stations from around the world. It's even good for local stations when reception is an issue due to your location. That's all great. But it has some issues.. which have been mentioned. But I will reiterate:



1. The biggest problem is not being able to dim the screen. It lights up our entire room. It's ridiculous. And I don't want the screen to be off... I want to be able to see it any time of the day or night without having to illuminate my neighborhood. I have had this problem with other electronics before. It seems like the last consideration when developing new tech. Too bad. It's a major drawback if you are planning on using it as a clock ratio.



2. The interface. It's alright to have a remote but for a clock radio the remote buttons should be back lit. There's nothing you can do at night if the screen is off. Once you memorize the major buttons it's possible to get by but it's a big learning curve. It should also be possible to control it via a computer on the network.



Overall I do love it... and I have overcome problem #2... but #1 is a weakness. We do have the screen go off after 1 minute, which we are getting used to.



As of today, Oct 11, 2009, there is no firmware upgrade that fixes the dimmer problem. The Aluratek driver on the website is 1.37 (not 1.7 as it states).

I liked just about everything about this clock radio until I hooked it up to my uPnP server and it refused

to play my 192kbps encoded MP3s.



I worked with Aluratek support (they were responsive which was nice) and they told me that the device couldn't

and wouldn't be able to handle those.



Unfortunately that's my entire MP3 library, and the entire reason i got the radio, so i've returned it.



Also, It seems like this and a few other sub-$200 radios have a pretty cheap feel to them.

I have had the radio for three weeks now and am extremely happy with my purchase. I knew that I would get a large assortment of radio stations. I didn't know how easy it would be to use. The menus are simple and clear. The remote works very well. The quality is great. Everything works as specified.



Just imagine hearing about the tsunami in Samoa and then tuning in to the news reports from neighboring Australia before going to sleep at night. Well that what I did last week. What a great technology and device.



I am about to purchase a second one to hook up to my stereo system in the den.



There was one minor glitch. During my first set up, the radio gave me an error warning on the display. There was nothing in the instruction manual to help me resolve the problem. I called tech assist and they helped me through the problem. All that was required was hitting the reset button on the back of the radio. I would think that this is a common problem and should be fixed in future editions of the instruction manual. The bad news was the manual had an omission. The good news was that the tech assist phone call was very helpful.
