 "Still an engineer's gear" 2009-10-15

First, why call yourself Cobra, it is a name for a motorcycle, not for an Internet Radio. Secondly, no remote control, I need to use my fat finger to touch the tiny little control DOTs. Thirdly, there is no need for FM Radio, for Clock or date, Alarm, etc. etc. If these functions are cut off, price can come down another 30 - 40%. The positive is that it is a nice gadget to connect to speaker systems turning it into an Internet appliance. There is no need to compete at sound quality circle. It is an Internet enabling device, not a soul pleasing speaker system. Cobra - take it from me, just make an internet connecting device and price it at $50 or so, You can sell tons of it.

"Lots of features but misses the mark" 2009-10-11
By Ray Melissa (Orange County California)
I bought this radio about 2 weeks ago. It is easy to set up and has a number of good features. But the preset button are 1/8 inch in diameter - way too small. The display is too small for the all the information that needs to be displayed. The display is too bright for bedside use. It lights up the whole room. There is no way to dim the display.

I could not get this radio to work with my network. Their Customer service gave up. I sent it back and got my money back.

Great sound. Easy to use. Display is too bright for an alarm clock. Could use a dimmer switch. Buttons too hard to push without pushing the radio as well.

 "great little radio" 2009-09-03
By the ghoul (Las Vegas, NV United States)
This internet wifi radio is a wonderful device. The variety of stations it receives from all around the globe is truly amazing, and the audio is crystal clear. It's like having a shortwave radio that cheats! In fact, one could spend several thousands of dollars on one of those super-elite top of the line shortwave receivers and a nice antenna, and still not come anywhere near the amount of stations you can hear with this little toy. It also wouldn't be able to deliver static-free sound the way this radio does.

The Cobra 1000A does what it is supposed to do and does it well. The set-up is extremely easy. It's actually even easier than the manual makes it out to be. Just enter the password for your home wireless connection, and you will be receiving stations almost instantly. The sound is excellent for having one small speaker. It sounds great even at high volume. I can have it on in my bedroom and listen to it from anywhere in the house. This radio also looks great. It is a slick, glossy black color, and I really like the styling. It looks just like an old scanner or CB base station from the 1960's. And of course the cool looking Cobra logo is the icing on the cake.

It is easy to add more stations to the radio's current list of over 15,000 by typing their URLs IF YOU KNOW THE URL, but I've discovered that those URLs are not as easy to come by as I thought they would be. The difficulty in finding URLs is not a fault of the Cobra 1000A, since one would have the same problem regardless of which wifi receiver you own, but it is worth mentioning for anyone interested in trying an internet radio. The actual URLs of internet radio stations are usually hidden by the software used by the webpages where you listen to them. You can buy software from various online companies that supposedly can figure out those URLs, but I'm not sure if it's worth it, since there are plenty of stations already available with more being added to that list constantly. I don't really feel like it's necessary to add more stations, but it would be nice if it was an easy thing to do.

I would love to give this radio 5 stars, but there are a few little design issues that prevent me from doing so. First, the radio is a bit too light. When I push a button, I have to hold the radio down to keep it from sliding. This is not only a little cumbersome, it also causes there to always be fingerprints on that nice glossy black finish. Second, the buttons are way too small; tiny, in fact. And third, the screen stays too brightly lit when the radio is off. It needs to be dimmer for sleeping purposes.

All of that having been said, I still love this radio, and I don't think you can beat it for the price I paid for it from Amazon.com with free shipping. I highly recommend the Cobra 1000A.
